A game both kids and adults love is putting together a fun puzzle! Toddlers can start playing with simple 2-piece puzzles from the time they are 2 years old. Over the years, you can build this love with more complex and challenging puzzle shapes and designs!

While playing with a puzzle can keep a child engaged for hours, they will also be picking up and sharpening many of their cognitive and fine motor skills. This includes spatial awareness, pattern and colour recognition, focus and concentration, pincer grasp, and hand-eye coordination.

At what age should a child do puzzles?
Children can start doing chunky wooden puzzles or simple 2-piece puzzles when they are as young as 2 years old. A toddler will enjoy colourful puzzles with a rich texture or adorable illustrations.

Why can't my child do puzzles?
Every child grows at their own pace and enjoys using different toys according to what stimulates and challenges them where they are at in their development. If your child isn't taking to a typical puzzle, you could try 3D puzzles which are like blocks, or a Chinese Tangram which is made of cloth. Building stories around them or getting them to assist you in fixing a puzzle are ways to ease them in. If they are not yet ready, wait a few more months and try again!

What does it mean if your child is good at puzzles?
If your child is good at puzzles, they may have excellent spatial awareness and logic and reasoning skills! These can help with sports, making art, and many other exciting explorations. Make sure you give them a chance to keep solving different types of puzzles and building their skills.
